A nursery rhyme is a traditional song or poem taught to young children, originally in the nursery. Learning nursery rhymes assists in the development of vocabulary and in some cases basic counting skills.

A lullaby is a soothing song that is usually sung to children before they go to sleep, however a lullaby can be sung at any time. Lullabies originated in the late 1300s in England. The concept behind a lullaby was that the song sung by a familiar voice will lull the child to sleep. Lullabies where often written by classical composers are often given the form-name berceuse, which is French for lullaby (or cradle song).
